Bi-Lo Bargain Meal of the Week - Monkey Bread

Monkey Bread

I'm sharing a recipe that may not be the healthiest this week, but it sure tastes good - and you have my ten year old son to thank!  His absolute favorite thing to eat for breakfast (even more than chocolate chip pancakes) is Monkey Bread!  I've been making it for him forever, and if I even think about bringing canned biscuits in the house without making that child some Monkey Bread..... I've got another thing coming!!  It really is simple, and while I don't make this kind of thing on school mornings it's perfect for an easy weekend treat!  By the way, leftovers are delicious in the microwave (if you have any left at all)!

What You'll Need:
2 cans refrigerated biscuits
Pillsbury Grands Biscuits - $1.25
USE $1/2 printabe
25¢ each after coupons & catalina

1/2 cup sugar
Dixie Crystals Sugar - $1.98 (If you don't already have some in the pantry!)
USE 40¢ OFF from SS 8/29
MAKES IT $1.18
(1/2 cup costs around 7¢)

From The Pantry or Fridge:
1 cup brown sugar
(2lb bag is usually around $1.50 to $2, so even if you have to buy this you're only paying around 50¢ for the recipe!)

3/4 cup butter (melted)

1 1/2 tsp cinnamon

Preheat the oven 350° and spray a Bundt pan really well with non-stick cooking spray.  Dump the cinnamon and white sugar into a gallon zip bag and mix up.  Then take all of the biscuits and cut them each into 4 quarters.  Drop the biscuits into the zip bag and shake them to cover in the cinnamon/sugar mixture.  I drop the biscuits into the bag in two batches - it seems to make the biscuits get covered better and keeps them from sticking together in one big clump.  Mix the brown sugar into the melted butter.  Place the biscuit pieces inside the pan in layers, and pour the butter/sugar mix over the top.  Bake for 30 minutes and cool for 10 minutes,  then flip upside down onto a plate to serve.  They will pull apart, be totally ooey-gooey, and they'll make your kids really happy (or that's the case at my house, anyway)!

*Raisins and walnuts are really good in this as well, but since they're not my son's favorites I leave them out!

The only thing I could add to this to make my family any happier would be bacon, which happens to be on sale this week (Hormel Black Label Bacon - $2.99)!

TOTAL MEAL COST:  $4.06 OR EVEN LESS!!
