SLOW COOKER RIBS
Probably the easiest way to make ribs, and they end up so tender! There's definitely room for your own spin on these, depending on what kind of sauce you like. I've used everything from Sweet Baby Ray's to Budweiser Barbecue sauce to a homemade concoction! The trick is putting them in the oven at the end to caramelize the sauce....YUM!
2 lbs Pork Spare Ribs
$1.79/lb
1 Bottle Barbecue Sauce
Budweiser Barbecue Sauce - $1.34
1 Medium Onion, chopped
3lb Yellow Onions - $2.99 (around 35¢ ea)
From The Pantry or Fridge:
Garlic Powder
Salt
Pepper
Season the ribs generously with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Then put them in a very large stock pot with onions and just enough water to cover. Bring up to a boil and boil them for around 10-12 minutes. Drain well, then add the ribs and onions to your crock pot (be sure to preheat it before adding them). Cover with bottle of barbecue sauce and cook on lowest setting for 6-8 hours. Warning - your house will smell delicious!
Just before dinner, pull the ribs out of the crock pot. Lay them out on a sheet pan and broil them for 12 minutes. This is where the sticky goodness comes from - bring on the napkins, because these get really messy!
TOTAL COST: $5.27!
